Who sets the agenda in our democracy?
Arrangeres av GoodAttention research group, Universitetet i Oslo
Torsdag 13. august
Kl. 13:30 – 14:30
Om arrangementet
Democratic societies constantly face more challenges than they can address at once. Climate change, war, migration, AI, economic uncertainty, public health, education—the list is endless. This raises a fundamental but often overlooked democratic question: who should decide what deserves our collective attention?
Should democratic agendas reflect public preferences, expert judgement, media priorities, or something else entirely? And what happens when increasing amounts of public attention are shaped by digital platforms and algorithmic systems?
This panel discussion draws directly on Zsolt Kapelner's ongoing research on the political philosophy of agenda setting. The conversation will explore how democratic societies ought to determine their priorities and what is at stake when the struggle for public attention becomes increasingly intense.
